The monthly security patches are starting to roll out, and the sideload-able Nexus files are available for download if you don't want to wait. The full system images are there so you can start fresh, but the OTA files are available too if you want a quicker method. As usual, don't expect feature updates in this OTA, but there are ample fixes for vulnerabilities large and small.
The system images are updated on Google's developer portal, but you will need to be bootloader unlocked in order to flash them. The OTA files don't require you to be unlocked, and you can just sideload over ADB in a few minutes without wiping the device. The newest files are at the bottom of each device list, builds are listed below.
- Pixel C – MXC89L
- Nexus 6P – MTC20F
- Nexus 5X – MTC20F
- Nexus 6 – MOB30W and MMB30R
- Nexus Player – MOB30W
- Nexus 9 LTE – MOB30W
- Nexus 9 Wi-Fi – MOB30W
- Nexus 5 – MOB30Y
- Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi – MOB30X
- Nexus 7 2013 Mobile – MOB30X
There are two different August patch levels that you might see on devices going forward (it was the same in July). Google's security bulletin breaks it down for each potential vulnerability, but the gist is that the 8/5 patch is more complete than the 8/1 patch. Th later of the two actually has a fair number of critical vulnerabilities in Qualcomm components, so hopefully most OEMs can target that one.
