Nintendo Download: 9th June (North America)

It's that time again, dear reader, for the last Nintendo Download Update before E3. This week brings a fabulous Kirby retail release on 3DS, and beyond that there are some interesting download-only options across both the Wii U and 3DS. Without further pre-amble, let's get to it.

Did you miss the European Nintendo Download Update details earlier in the week? It's ok, don't fret, the information you need is right here.

Wii U eShop

Olympia Rising (PlayEveryWare, $4.99) - This is an adventure platformer with some rather stylish pixel-based visuals, as expected revolving around climbing up Mount Olympus. It looks and sounds impressive, with a few quirks holding it back from being an excellent game; nevertheless we gave it a recommendation in our Olympia Rising review.

Wii U Retail Download

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (Nordic Games, $19.99) - This one saw its release date move around a little on Wii U, but is finally pinned down. An adventure with roots in the point-and-click era, we can expect humour to go with our important quest - we'll see whether it's a magical experience in a review.

Wii U Virtual Console

Wario: Master of Disguise (Nintendo, $9.99) - The latest DS game to make its way to the Wii U, in this case a quirky combination of platformer and mini-games with touch controls as Wario plays the thief in 'TV episodes'. While it may sound like a fun idea, we criticised this heavily in our Wario: Master of Disguise review.

Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts

FreezeME (RNC, $9.99 until 23rd June, normally $13.99)

Wicked Monsters Blast! HD+ (Corecell Technologies, on discount until 30th June)

Word Puzzles by POWGI (Lightwood Games, $7.99 until 16th June, normally $9.99)

Grumpy Reaper (Enjoy Up, on discount until 30th June)

Job the Leprechaun (Herrero, €0.99 until 30th June, normally $2.99)

The Rivers of Alice: Extended Version (Delirium Studios, on discount until 16th June)

3DS eShop

Puzzle Labyrinth (CIRCLE Entertainment, $5.00) - A potential nice fit for the 3DS eShop, as this sets you the task of solving puzzles in order to work your way through a maze, combat monsters and so on. 60 stages are promised and it looks intriguing in footage; we'll solve the conundrum of whether it's worth a purchase in our review.

Dan McFox: Head Hunter (Lightwood Games, $2.99) - A rare release from Lightwood Games that isn't a word game. It's a port of a mobile title generally targeting young gamers, as it incorporates elements of the 'Guess Who' board game, challenging the player to frantically pick out faces that fit the right criteria. We gave it a modest recommendation in our Dan McFox: Head Hunter review.

3DS Retail Download

Kirby: Planet Robobot (Nintendo, $39.99) - HAL Laboratory returns with another cheerful and colourful platformer, though the mechanised theme here sets it up nicely for some smart level design and enjoyable twists. Beyond an excellent campaign there are multiple unlockables to dip into, and we gave this an enthusiastic recommendation in our Kirby: Planet Robotot review. Available from 10th June.

3DS DLC

Fire Emblem Fates: End - Lost in the Waves (Nintendo, $1.99 or part of Map Pack 2) - The next generation assaults their ultimate foe. The Heirs of Fate finale.

Hyrule Warriors Legends Free Companion Fairy (Nintendo, free) - A Fairy comes bearing gifts! To thank you all for playing the Hyrule Warriors Legends game, a free SpotPass download including a new Fairy companion, Lazuli, extra Rupees and more fairy Food is now available! Lazuli will surely prove to be a stalwart ally, aiding you with her skills and magic!
