Google has updated its online store, adding the Acer Chromebook 11 and Acer Chromebook 14 to its current offering. Announced at this year's CES back in January, the laptops are the first of a new breed of Chromebooks that can run Android apps straight out of the box.
The $180 (£125, AU $244) Acer Chromebook 11 has an 11.6-inch (29cm) display and an extra-tough reinforced chassis designed with the clumsy user in mind -- the company tells us it can withstand a fall of up to 2 feet (60cm) and still continue working. The 2016 update also includes a modest 2.16 GHz Intel Celeron dual-core processor, a 16GB solid-state drive, and an internal battery that can last 9 hours before it needs a recharge.
You can also step-up to the $300 (£208, AU $407) Chromebook 14 , which also houses an Intel Celeron but bumps it up to a 1.6GHz quad-core processor. It also compensates with a 15-hour battery life and an alum inum frame that measures 0.67 inch (17mm) thick at 3.42 pounds (1.55kg).
Neither device has a touch screen and their specs probably aren't raising your heart rate, but it's worth noting their ability to access more than a million existing Android apps in the Play store. More Chromebook devices will roll out with Android compatibility soon, and you can find the complete list of Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, and Chromebases here.
