Download Festival 2016 runs from June 10-12, 2016

In the wake of the deaths of Motorhead's Lemmy and Megadeath's former drummer Nick Menza, music fans will be turning out in their thousands at this year's Download to rock and mosh in their memory.

The world famous festival takes place at Donington Park in Leicestershire once again.

For three days on June 10-12, some of the biggest names in heavy metal and rock will be taking to the four stages to perform their greatest hits and latest albums.

With such a huge choice of acts to choose from, we give you our Top 10 bands at this year's Download.

10. Saxon

Headlining Sunday's Maverick Stage, this classic metal band formed in 1976 doesn't show any sign of stopping.

Saxon are an act to catch if you want see where heavy metal all started, with eight UK Top 40 albums including two in the Top 5 during their 1980s heyday.

The British band is considered to have seriously influenced the likes of Metallica, Motley Crue and Megadeth.

9. Monster Truck

If you feel like exploring a sub-genre, it'll be worth checking out this group that mixes hard rock, southern rock and blues.

With a sound that feels like you've just downed several shots of bourbon, these Canadian rockers, with their motto "don't f*** with the truck", will blow your mind on the Lemmy main stage come Sunday morning.

Currently touring with their latest album Sittin' Heavy, look out for their new single Don't Tell Me How To Live and fan favourite, Sweet Mountain River.

8. Megadeth

Having just lost their old drummer, Nick Menza, it would a crime to miss out this American thrash metal band.

Together for over thirty years, these guys are considered one of their genre's Big Four, alongside Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer.

No stranger to speed metal as well, the band has a fast paced rhythm and technical style to accompany lead singer David Mustaine's deep vocals.

Skillet have had huge success in the US as a Christian metal band

7. Skillet 

This metal band with Christian influences has had huge success, especially with their 2009 album Awake.

The record debut at No 2 on the Billboard 200, and was one of only three bands to be certified as Platinum in 2012, along with Mumford & Sons and The Black Keys.

Two of it's previous albums, Collide and Comatose, received Grammy nominations.

The band has sold over two million records in the US alone, with their latest album, Unleashed, likely being performed during their set on the Zippo Encore Stage.

6. Rammstein

The first of the three main headliners, this German Neue Deutsche Harte (alternative and groove metal) band has remained an unchanged six man lineup since it formed in 1994.

While most of their songs are performed in German, these Berliners have explored a host of other languages from English and French, to Spanish and Russian.

Rammstein's award-winning live performances are unmissable thanks to their diverse theatrics and extreme pyrotechnic performances.

5. Iron Maiden

Next up are the Sunday headliners, world touring with their 16th studio album, The Book of Souls.

One of the most successful classic metal bands in the world, Iron Maiden made the way for new wave metal in the late 1970s and 1980s.

With very little visual or audio media support, the band have still managed sell over 90 million albums the world over.

Ozzy's band are on their final tour with exclusive tour-only album, The End

4. Black Sabbath

The third main stage headliners to make the list is Ozzy Osbourne's legendary rock group.

Originally formed as a 1960s blues band, these Godfathers of rock are considered by some fans to be the very first heavy metal band.

Currently on their final tour, their last album entitled The End, which includes four unused tracks from their last record 13, will only be available where they perform - obviously that includes Download.

3. Motorhead's Lemmy Tribute

Apart from the news of Megadeth's former drummer, it was with great sadness that Motorhead had to pull out of performing this year after the death of main member Lemmy last December.

Since his passing, the Download 2016 lineup poster has included a picture of Lemmy's famous cowboy hat, and had the main stage renamed after him in tribute.

Download had confirmed that they are working with Motorhead's management on a tribute to the great man, for the slot he would have previously performed.

2. Babymetal

A late addition to Friday's main stage, this zany metal band is made up of three Japanese teenage girls.

The group has been a surprise international hit, with its fusion of metal and Japanese idol genres in songs like Karate and Gimme Chocolate!!.

Having sold out Wembley Arena back in April this year with incredible five star reviews, this energetic trio are not to be missed.

1. Disturbed

They may come as a surprise No 1 to some for this year's Download, but Disturbed have had one hell of a year.

The Chicago based metal group caught the world's attention last December with a new single.

The song sees lead singer David Draiman perform a powerfully beautiful cover of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence, which has had almost 60 million hits on YouTube.

Still at No 17 in the iTunes UK singles chart at time of writing, a live performance of the band's incredible rendition cannot be missed.

The Sound of Silence aside, the band will be playing new hits including The Light from their awesome new album, Immortalized.

Download Festival will take place at Donington Park, Leicestershire on June 10-12, 2016.
